Cowboy Stephen HarperIn a thinly veiled attempt to adopt an American policy towards drug control Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his “Conservative” government are leading Canada, yet again in a direction it would rather not go.

Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper is calling for a cultural shift with Bill C-26, to be enforced by what his political opponents are calling an American-style war on drugs. He has introduced legislation that would set mandatory minimum jail sentences for marijuana growers and traffickers, and he is seeking more money for enforcement and prosecution.

The White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, or ONDCP, is warning U.S. health and safety organizations that “We cannot allow our young people to once again be victimized by the ‘rave’ culture”

With blatant disregard for the cultural phenomenon known as “Raving”, ONDCP director John Walters quickly stuffed his foot in his mouth with the above statement by equating “Ravers” with being the dregs of society responsible for all of it’s problems.

Walters had been commenting on the recent news that Canada is once again a top importer for Drugs into the United States, this time it’s not weed. It’s Ecstacy, apparently … Ecstacy laced with METH! DUN! DUN! DUN!

  • the National Academy of Sciences Analysis of Marijuana Policy (1982);
  • the National Commission on Marihuana and Drug Abuse (the Shafer Report) (1973);
  • the Canadian Government’s Commission of Inquiry (Le Dain Report) (1970);
  • the British Advisory Committee on Drug Dependency (Wooton Report) (1968);
  • the La Guardia Report (1944);
